Darrett Zusko has appeared throughout Canada, the US, Spain and the UK, including with the Montreal, Toronto and Cincinnati symphonies. |
This is the 3rd of 3 seasons in which MTO has presented the Cecilia on this series. Formed in fall 2004 at U of T, the quartet worked with the Emerson, the Tokyo, the Penderecki and the St. Lawrence. After benefiting from support from both U of T and the Royal Conservatory, the Cecilia is enjoying a residency at San Diego State University. Sarah Nematallah and Min-Jeong Koh, violinists, Caitlin Boyle, violist, and Rebecca Wenham, cellist, won the CBC’s Galaxie Rising Star Award in 07, and had a busy summer, including the Juilliard Quartet Seminar in New York and the Aspen Music Festival, the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival and Toronto’s Music Garden. Claude Gingras of Montreal’s La Presse described the Cecilia as a very serious and a tremendously coherent ensemble whose astounding complicity, tuning, ideas and focus capture the audience.

DAVID POMEROY, tenor |
Thursday, March 12/09 at 8 p.m. |
You heard David Pomeroy sing Faust with the Canadian Opera Company last season; you can hear him sing Rudolfo in La Bohème with the COC in spring 09. Now you can also hear him sing a rare solo recital. This Newfoundland native is enjoying a burgeoning international career. Lennie in Of Mice and Men for the Lyric Opera of Kansas City; Faust with the Met’s Opera in the Park; Don Jose in Carmen in Ireland, Kansas City and for Pacific Opera Victoria; Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly in Kansas City and Quebec. He created the role of Stefano in the world premiere of Calgary Opera’s smash hit Filumena. He has also been a soloist with all the major orchestras and choral companies in Canada.
David Pomeroy will sing selections from Schumann, Strauss, Puccini, Finzi, and traditional Newfoundland songs.
Our print materials wrongly identified pianist Peter Tiefenbach as the accompanist for this programme. Music TORONTO apologizes to Mr. Tiefenbach for the error; he has accepted our apology with his usual gracious good humour.
